Well, after last week's excitement, this week has been relatively quiet. Hugo finished wiring an aircraft for its new radio stack. They will be testing it this coming week. He also did some tool calibration and is working on a system to keep track of calibrated equipment. He has also been looking into the aviation regulations to find out what avionics technicians are actually allowed to do. Hugo has also been reviewing the MAF maintenance procedures manual in an attempt to clarify what an avionics shop can and can't do. There is research needed into what it would take to get the shop more properly equipped to do what needs to be done. Word has also gotten out that Hugo can fix some small appliances.... On Thursday Erica and Karin Alrich, the head nurse from the expat clinic, went to Waena, a 20 minute drive from Sentani, to check out a hospital there. We had heard good things about it and we decided to see for ourselves. While there we met a dutch couple from the interior who were in the process of trying to have their baby. Later that day the doctor performed a c-section and mother and son are doing fine. The hospital is very clean and adequately equipped. We both felt very positive after the visit. Next Saturday Erica hopes to meet with one of the OBGYN's that deliver there. He is known and respected by our expat doctor here. We have decided that it would be best to stay here and have the baby locally instead of potentially spending five weeks in Timika. There isn't much that Hugo could do there for MAF as we only have a one plane base there. On Friday the nurse removed Aidan's stitches while Erica and her pembantu held him down. He did not enjoy the procedure at all, but the cut is healing well. On Saturday we enjoyed the volleyball games and the hamburgers that went with them. On Sunday we went to church in Waena and then visited the dutch couple with their new baby at the hospital. That was our exciting week, how was yours? Salamat Hari minggu! In His Service, Hugo and Erica Feunekes
